Stretch fabric is a type of material that possesses elasticity, and its ribbed structure further enhances this stretchiness. Ribbed fabric, also known as stretch fabric, is a knitted textile characterized by a ribbed weave. Due to the interlooping of loops, the yarns can slip under external tension, giving ribbed fabric considerable elasticity.

　　If an elastic fiber called spandex is added to woven fabrics, the resulting material is also referred to as stretch fabric. Spandex is a highly elastic fiber, though it is relatively expensive; incorporating 4% to 8% spandex into woven fabrics can impart excellent elasticity.

　　Common stretch fabrics:

　　DuPont Lycra: the highest‑performing synthetic elastic fiber. It can stretch to 4–6 times its original width. With chlorine‑resistant properties, DuPont Lycra ensures that underwear lasts longer than conventional undergarments.

　　Nylon fabric: Although its texture isn’t as durable as Lycra, its elasticity and thickness are comparable to those of Lycra. It’s currently the most widely used material for underwear and is well-suited for mid-range products.

　　Polyester fabric: a stretchy material that can be stretched in both the warp and weft directions. Due to its limited elasticity, it is often used for swimwear or women’s two-piece swimsuits, but is less suitable for one-piece styles. It can also be partially blended with other yarns or employed in cost‑effective, strategic applications.
